Quantity but will the AA battery supply?
As you can probably tell, I'm not expert in physics. All I want to do is a laser power at 7.5 V and 280 mA. Yes 5 AA be able to provide this voltage and current? For how long?
2500 hours mA (mAh) is typical for AA cell. Some cells more recent AA 2850 mAh rating.

A self-powered flashlight does not require recharging the battery. You can supply power through the use of solar energy. This is a good way to cut costs and to help preserve Mother Nature.
If you already have an LED flash, it can be easily converted to a solar energy. Just use the solar panel a solar calculator. If you have an old calculator there, you can use the panel.
The next steps are what will follow:
